Geothermal Heat Pumps | Wilmington, DE

Did you know that your installation of a Geothermal system can qualify for a 30% Tax Credit with no upper limit. This Geothermal Tax Credit is available for existing homes & new construction homes. Both principal homes and second homes can qualify.

Efficient, advanced heat pump technology using ground-source energy.

"Geothermal" literally means heat from the Earth, and heat is a form of energy.

Practically every where in the United States, the temperature of the Earth below the frost line remains constant. This steady temperature profile allows the Earth to be used as a heat source in the winter and as a heat sink in the summer. Geothermal heat pumps use this characteristic to heat and cool homes and businesses by moving heat out of the Earth and into the buildings in the winter, and by moving heat out of the buildings and into the Earth in the summer.

Vertical Loop System:

Vertical loops are installed in vertical holes from 150 to 500 feet in depth depending on your specific systems needs. Each hole will contain a single set or a dual set of pipes. After the pipes are inserted the pipe is grouted. The number of loops or length of pipe, depends on ground conditions, cooling and heating loads and the depth of the hole. This system can be used where there is limited yard area.

Horizontal Loop System:

Horizontal loops are used when space is available and trenching can easily be done. A series of parallel pipes are laid in trenches 3 to 6 feet deep then back filled. A slinky coil can be used to minimize the amount of trenching needed for this system. This system can be used where there is a larger yard area, or where drilling bores or wells is difficult.

Open Loop System:

Where there is plentiful ground water, an open loop system can be used. In this system the ground water is pumped directly into the condenser water piping or an intermediate plate frame heat exchanger can be used to isolate the condenser water from the raw well water. This system typically has a supply and return well.

Pond/Lake System:

Water has excellent heat transfer. A pond or lake system is an extremely cost effective geothermal application. The coils are submerged below the surface of the water rather than being buried underground. There is minimum excavation with this system.

Geothermal Heat Pumps for Consumers

Geothermal heat pumps are similar to ordinary heat pumps, but use the ground instead of outside air to provide heating, air conditioning and, in most cases, hot water. Because they use the earth's natural heat, they are among the most efficient and comfortable heating and cooling technologies currently available.

Earning the ENERGY STAR means products meet strict energy efficiency guidelines set by the US Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Energy. ENERGY STAR qualified geothermal heat pumps use about 30% less energy than a standard heat pump. They are quieter than conventional systems.

Remember, saving energy prevents pollution. By choosing ENERGY STAR and taking steps to optimize the performance of your heating and cooling equipment, you are helping to prevent global warming and promoting cleaner air while enhancing the comfort of your home.
